Token quantity visible but MetaMask shows no fiat value? Separate a missing price feed from missing tokens, then check whether a real market and quote exist.

Decision chart: token units visible with no fiat price means check price coverage; missing units means check account and network; no trade route means check market liquidity.

A MetaMask user bought a token, could still see the token quantity, but not its balance in pounds. The wallet said “unable to find conversion rate.” Their question was simple: what does that mean, and can the token still be traded?

Short answer: A missing pound or dollar value usually means MetaMask does not have a price for that token. It does not by itself mean the tokens disappeared. MetaMask says its price display does not determine whether you can send a token; a swap still depends on whether a market with liquidity exists. MetaMask's missing-price explanation is the key distinction.

Are the token units visible, or is the token itself missing?

Here is an illustrative way to work through the same screen, not a wallet test HideFi performed. First, ignore the total fiat number for a moment and look at the token units. If the expected units appear, the immediate question is about a displayed exchange rate. MetaMask sources token price data from CoinGecko, and it may lack a fiat value for some tokens. The missing rate alone says nothing reliable about your profit or loss.

If the units are also missing, that is a different diagnosis. Check the account, network, and token contract using our MetaMask missing-token guide. Do not treat a missing price and a missing on-chain balance as the same problem.

Does “unable to find conversion rate” mean I cannot sell?

No automatic conclusion follows from the wallet's price label. MetaMask says a missing fiat value does not prevent a send or a swap if a market with liquidity exists. Check the specific token's Markets tab on CoinGecko or CoinMarketCap, as MetaMask recommends. Match the contract and network so you do not mistake a similarly named token for yours.

A listing is only a starting point. Before any trade, inspect the actual quote from the service you intend to use: the output token and network, amount received, price impact, fees, and any warning. If there is no usable route or the quote is poor, the missing MetaMask valuation is not the main obstacle. Do not connect your wallet to a site that promises to “restore” a price or asks for your recovery phrase.

The original decision graphic above separates these states: token units visible but no fiat price, token units missing, and market quote unavailable. Each leads to a different next check.

Can I force MetaMask to display a price?

The current MetaMask help page does not promise a manual price-entry fix. Check that the right token and network are selected, then use a reliable market reference for an external estimate. A manually calculated estimate is not a guaranteed sale value. If the token has no verifiable market, avoid treating a claimed price in a social post or unsolicited message as proof that you can cash out.
